Sis sings the National Anthem SOLO at her new High School

For those of you who have been following since Oklahoma or before, you'll recall what a hard time Sis had moving away from her old high school. She really didn't want to move to Oklahoma so when she found out we were moving to northern Arizona, she was pretty happy. To her, three hours away was much better than moving 18 hours away (driving time.)

Well, I'm happy to announce that after a bumpy first week in a new high school, we are now one full month in. While we (again) are not happy with the level of education,  and we are still thinking about home schooling, I am super proud of Sis for having the courage to stand up in front of the whole school and sing the National Anthem before a volleyball game.

She wasn't nervous a bit, did a terrific job and was cheered by the whole gymnasium.

Life is good.

  2. I have heard SO many bad versions of the Anthem at sporting events...she did a good job! I could make comments about her key ( i am a musician) but she stayed true to the song as written, which is VERY difficult, so I am thunbs up! So many singers try to personalize it and take it over the top, she didn't do that, which I respect. Glad the kids are adjusting to the move!

  5. She has an excellent voice and I hope she continues to pursue it. If I were her vocal coach, I'd go over a few things -- I'd advise to drop the little ornaments, you don't need them or to sound like a pop star. A few notes were also off key. But that has to be one of the best versions I've heard. Good for her!

  6. Hey OJD,

Sis sounded Great and I hope that she is having a blast at school! Moving is hard no matter how or when you do it, but I'm glad things are going so good. I'll play devil's advocate here for a second on behalf of going to public school, It's a great opportunity. Firstly kids can socialize and make friends and everybody needs that. Secondly I would look into whether or not the school offers Honors classes, I took these and they are far more rigorious than a normal class. Lastly, and speaking as a parent and scout master, sometimes kids will listen to other adults when they won't listen to their parents. Just putting it out there and hope it helps. Catch ya later and have a great week :-)
