Kayaking in Idaho

🏔️ Kayaking in Idaho — OJD's Favorite Spots

Idaho is one of the most underrated kayaking destinations in America. We have crystal-clear spring-fed rivers, deep volcanic reservoirs, and mountain lakes that look like they were designed by God specifically for paddlers. Here are my favorite spots after years of exploring Idaho's waters:

🌊 Blue Heart Springs — Snake River, Twin Falls

This is the crown jewel of Idaho kayaking. Blue Heart Springs is a series of electric-blue freshwater springs that bubble up from the floor of the Snake River Canyon near Hagerman. The water is an impossibly vivid turquoise and stays around 58°F year-round. You paddle the Snake River down into the canyon, then explore the springs by kayak. Absolutely stunning photography. Bring your dry bag and waterproof phone case — you'll want photos of this one.

🏞️ Magic Reservoir, Blaine County

Magic Reservoir is a great flatwater paddling destination with panoramic views of the Pioneer Mountains. Wind can come up fast in the afternoons, so morning paddles are best. Good fishing for rainbow trout and bass too. The shoreline is remote and wild — expect to see eagles, herons, and deer.

🌿 Hagerman Valley — Snake River

The Hagerman stretch of the Snake River is one of the most scenic flat-water paddles in southern Idaho. The canyon walls are dramatic, the water is calm, and you share it with massive white pelicans, osprey, and river otters. Multiple put-in and take-out points make it easy to plan your trip length.
